India is one of Asia’s significant markets for trade development, sourcing and international partnerships. For an Iranian company it can be an export destination, a source of goods and raw materials, and a place to find a commercial partner — sometimes all three.
Is the biggest exhibition in India the best one for your company?
Not necessarily. A show may have thousands of visitors and hundreds of exhibitors, but if most of that audience has no connection to your product, it will not generate much commercial value for you.
A smaller specialist exhibition, by contrast, can put far more buyers, importers, distributors and decision-makers from your particular sector in the same hall.
So the right question is not “which is India’s largest exhibition?” but “which exhibition is most relevant to my product and my commercial objective?”
Choosing a show starts with your product, not with the show’s name
The sequence we recommend working through:
- Your product and what your company can deliver
- Your commercial objective: export? import? sourcing? agency? partnership? investment?
- Your target market and customer
- The appropriate exhibition
- Identifying potential buyers and partners
- Arranging B2B meetings
- Attending and negotiating
- Following up after the show
That is the difference between attending an exhibition and actually using one commercially.
Which show for which sector?
Given the structure of Iran–India trade, the most relevant sectors are food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and industrial equipment. The established Indian events in those areas are:
| Sector | Established event |
| Food and agriculture | INDUSFOOD |
| Food ingredients and additives | Fi India |
| Pharmaceuticals and healthcare | iPHEX |
| Pharma, ingredients and production equipment | CPHI India / PMEC India |
| Chemicals and petrochemicals | INDIA CHEM |
| Textile machinery and technology | India ITME |
| Process equipment and industry | India Process Expo |
Confirm the dates, venue and registration terms for any edition with the organiser’s own website before planning around them. They change from year to year.
Why the choice matters
Exhibiting internationally is not simply renting a stand and travelling. A successful presence should serve a specific purpose: finding new customers, identifying importers, appointing an agent, locating a supplier, forming a partnership, understanding a market, or growing exports or imports.
Which is why the planning has to begin well before the exhibition does.
From choosing the show to building the relationship
Barzin Tejarat Hounam works on international exhibitions and trade delegations, helping companies identify where it is worth being and plan a presence with a purpose. Our involvement is not limited to the show itself: we follow the route from selecting the right event and planning the commercial programme through to meeting the right people and following up on what those meetings produced.
Considering the Indian market? Tell us your product and your commercial objective, and we will look at which exhibitions suit your target market.
